@ralphm: I don't think so, the page is signed Ka-Ping Yee, 28 Sep 1999... Of course, its easy to add a date into the past :).

@bugabundo: I don't see the similarity between the two sites... mibbit seems a regular, play AJAX site. Zesty chat uses a GIF image.
Maybe I'm missing something though.
Is this nph cgi animation like we used to do back in 1993 ? Yes, it's sick but it works in a way. Doesn't the connection have a timeout ? Javascript would be nice to make it continue up.

hmms.... nph with the (at the time) netscape extension that would allow you to replace the previous document I think.
nph was more trouble than worth, though.
I didn't look at the code. It feels mostly server side though.
